Mr. Calderwood

Born

  • Syracuse, New York.

Lived

  • North Syracuse through 2nd grade.

  • Phoenix, New York 2nd grade through college.

  • Washington, D.C. for two years with my first job out of college.

  • Currently in Liverpool, New York

College

  • Went to college at SUNY Oswego and graduated with a B.S. degree in geology.

  • Went back to school for my master’s degree in education through Le Moyne College.

  • Continue to take graduate level courses as a life-long learner.

Geology Career

  • My first job as a geologist was with a geotechnical engineering company in Northern Virginia.

  • Moved back to the Syracuse area and worked for Dames & Moore and C&S Engineers, Inc. as an environmental geologist.

Education Career

  • Teacher of earth science and life in general for the Liverpool school district since 1998.

Recognition

  • Le Moyne College Outstanding Student Teacher 1997.

  • Liverpool High School Annex Teacher of the Year 2003.

  • $5,000 grantee through NEC Corporation “Perfect Classroom” grant 2004.

  • Liverpool High School Annex Teacher of the Year 2006.

  • $500 grantee through Onondaga Lake Partnership Grant 2007.

  • Technology Alliance of Central New York Teacher of the Year 2009.

  • Outstanding Teacher Award - Optimist Club of Liverpool 2010.

  • Outstanding Teacher Award - Optimist Club of Liverpool 2012.

  • Outstanding Teacher Award - Optimist Club of Liverpool 2013.

  • Selected as a New York State Master Teacher Fellow 2013-2017.

  • 2015 New York State Finialist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

  • Hired as Educational Specialist for New York State Department of Education 2017

Family

  • My wife and best friend is an elementary school teacher in the Liverpool school district.

  • 19-year old son who is a sophomore in college and loves to skate.

  • 18-year old daughter who plays basketball and will be graduating from Liverpool in 2018.

  • 12-year old son who loves to create things, plays soccer, and is a 7th grade student at LMS.
